The Powis family purchased the Riviera Hotel, formerly The Rainbow International Hotel, on April 10th 2017 and immediately started a programme of refurbishment:

We've been extremely busy over the summer and installed a large, purpose built car park, accommodating another 50 cars on site, our guests now have ample parking when staying with us. We've also finished work on the link corridor between the North and South Wings of the hotel, creating windows along the link, not only allowing light into the dark corridor but also helping guests understand exactly where they are when staying in the South Wing.
Five more bedrooms have been completed, and new tables have arrived for the Ballroom. New tub chairs have arrived for the reception area and we have begun work on creating a Spa, with upgraded changing rooms and pool, a new jacuzzi, gym, treatment rooms and nail bar!
Ten rooms and bathrooms have now been totally renovated, including new bathroom fittings, double glazing, carpets, fabrics and furniture. Air conditioning and heating has been installed in the Show Bar allowing us to control the temperature whatever the weather!
A new set of public toilets has been installed on Reception level, close to the entrance to the Show Bar and also near the Restaurant - this is a welcome addition and stems from many complaints about the distance to the toilets for guests when in Reception and the Restaurant.
Paid parking has been installed, this has allowed us to free up the car park for guests of the hotel and not those using the car park to go to work for the day or pop into town! We are charging a minimal £7 per 24 hour period to help cover the cost of the extensive renovations but also allowing us to keep our rooms rates unaltered for the foreseeable future, however, if you book directly with the hotel parking is free of charge.
Work on the outside of the building is progressing with nearly all the front facia of the hotel now white and grey. Another room has been finished and the new boilers have been installed in the main hotel which will ensure excellent hot water pressure and heating for our guests.
Work on the roofs has begun to ensure we are leak free for the winter and numerous double glazed windows have been installed.
Work has begun on extending the Sports Bar which will involve moving the old toilets and extending into the original men's toilets and eventually into the cupboards and ironing room behind, long term making the sports bar twice as large as it is presently. Sky and BT Sports is now available in the bar.
New seating outside of the Sports Bar has arrived along with parasols - this is now open from 12 midday for our guests to enjoy a drink or a slushy cocktail!
The Sports Bar is now accessible from inside of the hotel, the new entrance has been widened and new toilets created specifically for the Sports Bar guests.
New uniform for the restaurant and reception staff has been implemented, bar staff will follow shortly.
Decorating the outside of the building has begun and the new signage has arrived and been fitted - The Club is now known as The Show Bar, and The Soda Fountain is now The Sports Bar!
The Sports Bar will soon be accessible from inside the hotel on the second floor by the internal link corridor as the old entrance is being widened and re-opened for our guests to use without having to go outside.
New pillows, pillow protectors, mattress protectors and valances have been ordered - 800 new pillows will be arriving by the end of the month and all old ones will go on the skip!
The seating in the restaurant has been re-arranged - previously when the hotel is full we have over spilled into the Empress ballroom next door, not great for our guests who then have a long walk to the buffet, this is no longer required as less 4 seater tables and more 2 seater tables have been implemented, meaning the restaurant can now accommodate all our guests over the dinner service.
Within 6 weeks of taking over 3 bathrooms have been completely refurbished, new large showers have been added, along with chrome fixings and white tiles with a mosaic border.
The outside front has been tidied up, along with all the overgrown ivy being removed.
